Upstage

Upstage is a 15.2hh, 1991 Thoroughbred gelding owned by Mr. Richard Thompson of Malvern, PA.   “Woody” had a great career with Karen through the four star level, and is now retired in Virginia.

Woody was one of the smallest horses Karen had ridden at that level.  “He’s a great friend and a great horse to ride,” said Karen shortly before he retired.  He had a huge heart and showed it often, especially coming back from a broken leg and colic surgery to delight of OCET and his fan club.

In 2006, this pair came in 7th place in the Red Hills CIC***World Cup division, and then 13th at The Fork CIC***W. Showing the others how it's done, Upstage cruised around the Rolex CCI**** cross country course with a clean and fast run. They finished 12th. Karen and Woody went on to represent the United States as individuals at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.

Highlights of their 2005 season include a 10th place finish at the Fair Hill International CCI*** and 7th place at the Rolex CCI****. Woody was 3rd in the Advanced division of the American Eventing Championships that year.
